Cathedral Square Welcomes New Board Members
Dr. Susan McMillan, Peg Maffitt, and Patricia Pomerleau have been named to the Board of Directors for Cathedral Square.
SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT — Cathedral Square, a leading nonprofit committed to addressing the critical need for affordable housing for older adults and people with diverse needs in Vermont, proudly announces the addition of Dr. Susan McMillan, Peg Maffitt, and Patricia Pomerleau to its esteemed Board of Directors.
Dr. Susan McMillan is the owner of the Old North End Veterinary Clinic and started the Vet to Pet Mobile Veterinary Service. She has been practicing veterinary medicine since graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. Susan spent five years in a tiny animal practice in Fairbanks, Alaska. Upon leaving Alaska, Susan did some veterinary relief work in San Diego where she launched Petcounselor.com, an online veterinary second-opinion venture. In 2003, Susan, her partner Kit, and their dog Killian went on a 17,000-mile road trip across America looking for the perfect place to land and found Vermont. They started Vet to Pet Mobile Veterinary Service in 2005 and the Old North End Veterinary Clinic in 2008. Susan was the Humane Society of Chittenden County’s veterinarian for 12 years until joining the HSCC Board of Directors in 2014, serving as Board Chair until 2020. She received the HSCC June Davis award in 2006 and the Veterinary Partner Award in 2012.
Peg Maffitt has had a longtime passion for end-of-life care issues. She has brought leadership experience to numerous non-profit organizations dealing with hospice and palliative care. Peg was on the Vermont Ethics Network board from 2011- 2021 which she chaired for nine years. Prior to that she was a key member and point-person for the Madison-Deane Initiative, the educational arm of the VNA’s End-of-Life Care Services for Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties. Peg chaired the MDI for seven years, was a longtime hospice volunteer, and a founding board member of the Vermont Respite House. She was the moving force behind raising the funds to acquire and house the first ambulance in Shelburne, VT. In her professional life, she was the Capital Campaign and Development Director of the King Street Center in Burlington for over 12 years.
Patricia Pomerleau holds a BS in Nursing from Georgetown University and an MS in Hospital Administration from Boston University. During her career in hospital management, Patricia served as COO of South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA, a 350-bed hospital and large home health agency where she focused on continuity of care and outreach to older community members. She also served in senior executive positions at CVPH Medical Center-Plattsburgh and Central VT Hospital in Barre. Her expertise encompasses industries from finance and insurance to healthcare, where she is recognized as an authority on the impact of emerging technologies on the future of American healthcare. Patricia also founded CEOExpress, a Software as Service (SaaS) technology platform. She is now retired in Vermont.

It operates 27 housing communities in Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle counties and administers the award-winning SASH® (Support and Services at Home) model, created in 2009 by Cathedral Square and available to Medicare recipients statewide, free of charge, since 2011.
